New Oldies - Fake Out by Frankie Sardo

  1. Nice background on Frankie Sardo, Joe!

I'd heard little to nothing about him up until a few short years ago. I recalled seeing his name on the WDP poster, but that was it. It was when I got in contact with Denise Ferri that my first listening connection to Sardo resulted. Denise was/is a member of the Delicates, along with Arleen Lanzotti and Peggy Santiglia, from the late 1950's thru the early 1960's. Perhaps their best known song was "Black And White Thunderbird". But I was about as knaive to the Delicates as I was about Sardo up until I contacted Denise. To my surprise, they had some really nice records that got by me for years without ever hearing any of them.

The Sardo connection? It was the Delicates who backed Frankie on "When The Bells Stop Ringing", and the flip side, in 1960.

For more background on the group, I finally got to meet Denise in person at the Friends of Old Time Radio convention in October, 2010. After speaking with them, they were part of a panel where they talked of their background, focusing a bit of their time on their association with Murray the K.

Note that the picture quality goes sour in spots, but the audio is intact. I was also limited to shooting three minutes at a time with the camera I used, but I linked the footage together.

  3. Frankie played at the National Guard Armory in Muskegon, Michigan in1958 or 59 along with Dion as part of that same tour after the crash. My sister interviewed them though she can not remember who else played along with them. I think it was Frankie Avalon but not sure.

    1. You're right. Now I have to wonder if Frank Sandy and Frankie Sardo were one and the same. I can't find any information at all about Frank Sandy.
